Robert(Bobby) James Fischer is considered by many to be the greatest chess player of all time. He broke the Soviet domination of the World Championship when he became the first American to win the title by defeating Boris Spassky of the USSR in Reykjavik, Iceland in 1972.He not only gave the most beautiful games to the chess world but put the chess game into the professinal standards. His contribution to the chess world is uncomparable.So as the tribute and respect to the great master we christioned our chess club by his name.
Fischer Chess Club in Ahmedabad was established in 1996 by Mayur Patel and Mr.Tarun Shah. Mayur Patel is the name which is almost synonym to CHESS as far as Ahmedabad Chess and Gujarat Chess activities are concerned.He has given his last 24-25 years to this game. The main objectives behind establishing this club are not only the continuous chess activities,but to have the developement of the game from the root level.For this purpose to be fulfilled,it is essential to arrange all level Tournaments, to organise coaching camps by Masters and to encourage and motivate people from all age groups (5 to 80) towards this intelligent game.
All the activities of Fischer Chess Club take place at Sun N Step ClubAhmedabad.
Fischer Chess Club organises at least 10 tournaments in a year which includes State-level, National Level and Festival competitions.Up to now Fischer Club has contributed to many selections of Gujarat State Chess Association.
